Facebook’s Buggy Spam Detection

on Friday, February 29th, 2008

Oh my! I’ve heard people getting kicked out of Facebook because they were sending too much messages and facebook considered them as spamming.
One last thing is added to the pile. Now they are claiming the reader of a message is spamming people.
Oh boy, it is funny.
I’ve logged into Facebook and saw I’ve received a message. I clicked the message and boom! There is a red box saying I’m spamming people with messages and I’ll be blocked soon if I continue this.
Wait a minute! I’m not the one writing the message I’m reading it.
So as a responsible geek, I’ve send a message to Facebook and here is the result:

Subject: Messages Help: bug in spam detection

Hello,
I clicked on the inbox to see a message that is coming to me. I clicked the message to read it (t=[edited])
I’ve received a box saying, I’m spamming.

Well at least they know that somebody made a booboo. Or not?

Test your PHP Facebook. I’m sure you have bugs in detecting the spam as well.

Find Articles

on Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Hello,
I’d like to announce my new website that I’m building right now. FindInArticles.com.
This site is about articles, it crawls all known article directories, article publishing sites and gethers articles from them.
It has a really extensive categorical index. currently I have about 1000 articles but the number is growing daily.
I used Php / Mysql / Apache to build up the site. I’m planning to add some ajax toys by the time.
You can also submit articles too.

Visit me and tell me what you think thanks…

7 Reasons Why Web 2.0 Apps Fail

on Friday, May 5th, 2006

I’ve found this interesting article on why the web2.0 applications fail (or will fail)

1. Focus on social instead of personal.
2. They solve too many problems, or try to.
3. They’re about making someone other than the user happy.
4. They sell it the wrong way.
5. Not in it for the long haul.
6. They show too much of what’s going on, and get gamed.
7. They don’t have an underlying business strategy of improving people’s lives.

Things to look out for when building a large application

on Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Joshua Schachter from del.icio.us has really nice notes for the ones that are looking for it.

These are the things to look out for when building a large application on web. Most of them I agree, some of them I don’t. This list also should keep in mind that, real world problems are not that perfect. I marked the ones that I strongly agree with an asterix (*).
I also filtered out the things are specific to del.icio.us from the original text.

Importance of redundancy

on Sunday, December 18th, 2005

It seems like del.icio.us is suffering from failing harddrives :).
Excuse the smiley but it seems that because of a power shortage it’s a total shame to take a site like del.icio.us down.
Maybe they would have invested in some redundency.

Due to the power outage earlier in the week, we appear a number of continued hiccups. We’ve taken everything offline to properly rebuild and restore everything. I apologize and hope to have this resolved as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued patience.
Updates will be posted on our blog as we have them.
